Charlotte, N.C. (Aug. 5, 2015) – Johnson C. Smith University offensive coordinator Tory Woodbury was awarded the NFL’s Nunn-Wooten Scouting Fellowship and is taking part in the St. Louis Rams training camp by serving in the Professional Scout division during the Rams training camp at Rams Park in Earth City, Missouri.
Woodbury was selected from a pool of over 400 applicants for the program. The Nunn-Wooten Scouting Fellowship, created by the NFL in January 2015, is designed to educate former NFL players interested to further their football careers off the field. The program gives participants hands-on experience as full-time members of an NFL scouting staff, and gives them the opportunity to shadow NFL scouts during a season-long internship that develops their ability to spot talent.
Woodbury, a former special teams player for the New York Jets, says the opportunity to interact with professional coaches and staff provides a phenomenal avenue to learn more about how to identify talent and the collegiate and professional level. “From my past playing days, I’ve built relationships with great people like Ran Carthon (Rams Director of Pro Personnel), my former teammate George Foster and former CIAA and St. Louis Ram player Ray Agnew.”
The fellowship has allowed him to meet and work with Les Snead (St. Louis Rams General Manager), head coach Jeff Fisher, and defensive coordinator Gregg Williams, among many others.
The fellowship, named in honor of Bill Nunn, longtime personnel director for the Pittsburgh Steelers, and John Wooten, a former NFL player and front office executive, is part of the NFL’s Football Development program under NFL Football Operations.
